If you live in NYC - BE AWARE OF THIS WHEN RENTING A CAR FROM HERTZ or DOLLAR.
Apparently residents of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx live in ridiculously high crime areas, so these rental companies feel they can charge you an additional $65+ per day due to the risk of theft.
This charge is not reflected in your base rental rate or final quote, it's assessed at the time of rental when they look at your driver's licence. Isn't this what you buy LDW insurance for? These are Dollar's Miscellaneous Rules as posted at Orbitz:
